Jon Craig ft Jake Niemi – Start Tonight

Lined up for release this March – Jon Craig is back to his best with another fully-loaded production featuring the masterful vocals of Jake Niemi. Working out of the UK on a sound that’s relevant anywhere in the dance music world – Jon has developed a following that are rightfully hyped up about his recent studio outputs. With his and production partner Samuel Cawley’s rework of the System F classic ‘Out of The Blue’ picking up international coverage – Jon’s back to his best with another fine addition to his discography.

The gliding soft lead on the background creates the perfect backdrop for the vocals. Jake Niemi is no stranger to the big stage having already received international support and a top five single on Beatport to go with it. The stringed-pads lay the chorded foundation and without much modulation, seem to swell into the more big-room styled lead. As ever with Jon Craig’s high impact production style ‘Start Tonight’ is heavy on big and bright leads and uses a library of complementing tones that all comes together in a way that he’s made his own. The melodies are all upbeat, subtly euphoric and very well executed. The tension is released by the main drop and lets off a kick, layered with crispy hats and a resonant bass line pulsing on the off-beats Clearly a fan of those big moments in breakdowns – Jon has cooked up a single here that spends just as much time in drum-less breaks as it does in the main body. The result is a highly-melodic single that leaves a lot of room for synths and vocals to breathe without the often overwhelming low frequencies emitted from kicks and sub bass parts. Tailor made for those big room moments and arm-raising crescendos – Jon’s found himself a style that’s all about reaction.

Back again on JCA Records – Jon’s clearly meaning business in 2015 and with a steady line of releases in recent months, we’re confident that he’ll be a name buzzing around conversations about breakthrough talents this year. With the last three releases all securing top twenty spots on Beatport – the imprint is rightly optimistic about this latest addition to their classy catalogue.
