UK-based songwriter-composer-producer Jonny Spalding has shared a new single “Break Me”, released August 7th via Talk Talk Talk records/ Ditto Music.
The new track has the full support from UK production duo, The Nextmen, who describe Break Me as a ‘cool tune’, with a raw and claustrophobic bass-heavy track that features powerful and defiant lyrics. Produced alongside Hugh Fothergill and featuring soulful vocals from J Appiah and Freddie Gavita on trumpet, Break Me is a personal track that marks a creative milestone for Jonny. Accompanied by a brand new visual, Jonny Spalding’s latest work is arguably his best yet.
“Break Me” is a serious labour of love. My first single, proper. Written with J Appiah, I am very proud of how it has turned out,” he said.
As a co-founder and main songwriter for London’s 2-Tone/Ska/Reggae outfit, The Kubricks, Jonny achieved success with the bands two critically acclaimed albums (2015’s Wasters & Wannabes & 2017’s The Heist) which spawned rave reviews from the BBC as well as commercial radio support and high-profile support slots alongside The Skints, UB40 & Bad Manners. Following the release of The Heist, Jonny went on to write and produce with a number of upcoming artists including Jackson Mathod, Ayia Gold, Monster Florence, and Michaela May.
2020 sees the launch of Jonny’s solo music with his first project, EP Community, due later this year. Community brings together a diverse group of musicians to feature on original compositions written by Jonny and collaborators, including Folk singer Emma Ballantine, soulful J Appiah, jazz trumpeter Freddie Gavita and gospel power-house Sharlene Hector.
