Bristol duo Apexape have enlisted BRIT nominated house DJ/producer Philip George to rework their single, ‘Joy & Pain’. Out now via Cr2 Records/BMG, Philip’s striking twist and the accompanying After Dark remix will join earlier renditions from Hour Enemy, Alex Ross and Chris Carrier.
Philip George’s remix includes a deep bassline and contrasting twinkling synths – steering away from the original’s funky house sound. His After Dark take of ‘Joy & Pain’ flaunts minimal synth patterns, laced with Josh Barry’s looped vocals.
Nottingham-based DJ and producer Philip George propelled into the dance music scene with his debut single, ‘Wish You Were Mine’. The track peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart and amassed over 70 million plays on Spotify – landing him in the coveted ‘British Single’ category amongst Adele and Calvin Harris at last year’s BRIT Awards. His follow-up record, ‘Alone No More’ also charted in the Top 10 Singles Chart.
Originally an 80’s anthem produced by Maze & Frankie Beverly, Apexape revamped ‘Joy & Pain’ with Josh Barry’s soulful vocals and their own signature energized funky house beats. The Bristol duo’s modern take continues to receive millions of streams across Spotify and SoundCloud after a coveted premiere on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show. Apexape continued to receive a wealth of support from BBC Radio 1 with Danny Howard, Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac all championing the track. Elsewhere, ‘Joy & Pain’ has gained plays from the likes of Capital, 1Xtra and Kiss FM the uplifting single has received over 80 key specialist plays to date.
