This August will see English artist jozif release the ‘Rutka’ EP via the Leftroom Ltd imprint, featuring a remix from ISNISNT founder Heartthrob.
Jozif Goodwin, better known as simply jozif, is a London based DJ and Producer, notably known for his works with the likes of Crosstown Rebels, Wolf + Lamb, Culprit and Vitalik. As well as delivering a striking slew of material via the aforementioned imprints, jozif also maintains a busy touring schedule, which so far this year has taken him to many festivals across the globe, and seen him grace the decks of some driving forces in the global underground scene such as Fabric (London) and Verboten (NY).
Title track ‘Rutka’ opens up the release, seeing Goodwin embrace his signature chuggy, low-slung vibe with rounded sub tones, tripped-out atmospherics and an amalgamation of spoken word vocal snippets driving the composition.
Following is ‘Sneak Thief’, maintaining a similar aesthetic to the preceding cut with its dropped-tempo, hypnotic vibe, though jozif instils a warm musicality this time, achieved through jazzy piano licks, bright chords and an organic bass hook. Heartthrob, an artists who’s worked with the likes of Minus, BPitch and Spectral Sound over the years, offers up a reshape of ‘Sneak Thief’ to follow, putting things on a darker tip with crunchy distorted rhythms, programmed with an infectious swing, while bubbling ethereal synth tones gradually blossom over the stunning six and a half minute interpretation.
‘Afraid Of Dee’ then rounds things off, winding down on a mind-bending, psychedelic trip as jozif layers up multiple analogue synth lines and arpeggio style rumbles alongside loose and bumpy rhythms, resulting in a brilliantly unique and charming B-Side to complete the package.
jozif’s ‘Rutka’ EP is out on Leftroom Ltd 25th August 2014.
