Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel team up with Alex for some Favela-inspired funky disco on “Musa” out on Imagenes Recordings July 18th

Fusing the Wet Coast influenced disco funk of Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel with the Brazilian vocal flair of Aleh comes “Musa” new on Imagenes Recordings. Its Alternative Version channels a deeper Afro/Brazilian groove that transmits the sounds of ‘Favela Funk’ straight to the discerning dance floor. An unmissable summer groove.

The Original Version of “Musa” is a masterclass in fusion, meshing West Coast-infused Disco Funk sounds seamlessly blended with a distinctly Brazilian flair. It conjures up an intriguing and bold combination that’s both familiar and refreshingly new – like if Marcos Valle were to jam with P-Funkadelic. The Alternative Version is an equally compelling sonic landscape, exploring the deeper spectrum of Afro/Brazilian/Electronic with hints of “Favela Funk” but elevated by a jazzy sophistication. It’s a testament to the three artists’ ability to push boundaries and create something truly unique. This is music that speaks to both the rich heritage of Brazilian sounds and the exciting possibilities of global electronic music.

From the vibrant heart of Rio de Janeiro emerges Aleh, a singer and multi-instrumentalist whose growing reputation has seen him work with titans of the Brazilian music scene, including Cassiano, Banda Black Rio, Sandra De Sa, and Seu Jorge. His warm, distinctive voice, samba-funk fusion grooves and lyrics that celebrate Afro-Brazilian heritage have earned him a career spanning three decades across the globe. With recent Live dates at the London Jazz Festival, Coed Fest Festival, Medicine Festival and the Jazz Café, Aleh Ferreira & Love Revolution play Jamboree on July 18th, with the latest edition of the Brazilian cultural event, Samba de Raiz UK.

Having also shared the stage with the likes of Ed Motta, Sue Jorge and Daniela Mercury, Aleh’s earned an assortment of national and international awards as a performer and also as a soundtrack composer for the Cinema and TV, recognised as one of the most prominent contemporary musical figures of “Musica Popular Brasileira/ MPB” (Brazilian Popular Music) in the diaspora.

Juan Laya and Jorge Montiel are two of the leading forces in London’s vibrant latin fusion scene since 2007, having clocked up another impressive year on their highly respected latin fusion and nu disco label, Imagenes Recordings. Key releases include “When The Sun Goes Down”,  “Universal Love” and the Atjazz mix of of Amazonas “Secret Kingdom”  and they’ve forged a platform to champion producers such as Tommy Glasses and Opolopo.

Imagenes impressive music catelogue features collabs and projects with acclaimed artists such as UK soul icon, Omar, jazz songstress, Heidi Vogel and Andre Espeut, and under aliases such as Boogie Magic and Boogie Man they built their reputation with contemporary classics such as “All Around The World’, “Everlasting Love” and “Sunshine”.

Drawing inspiration from 70’s New York City’s revolutionary latin, disco and funk musical melting pit, the production dynamos produce under their own names as well as aliases such as Funky Magnetic and the inter-sonic live band, Los Charly’s Orchestra, behind the “Rediscovering The Big Apple” and “Los Charly’s Orchestra: Remixed” albums.

With the label winning accolades for its diverse releases including heavy hitters such as the Atjazz Remix of “Amazonas”, Juan and Jorge weave their Venezuelan roots with disco, funk, soul and latin on excellent albums such as the “Electropical” series. Cementing their reputation as they celebrate 11 years of Imagenes Recordings and their 160th release, A list supporters include Worldwide FM and BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, Radio 1’s Pete Tong, Louie Vega, Lakuti and BBC 6 Music’s Craig Charles as well as Jazz FM. Their latin-infused dance floor grooces can be found on best-sellling compilations including 2024 and 2020’s ‘Cafe Del Mar’ editions, Defected Records, Expansions and Universal with esteemed producers such as Dave Lee, John Morales, Dimitri from Paris and Jose Padilla (RIP) delivering memorable remixes.
