Grime pioneer Kano last night demonstrated why his much-anticipated triumphant return to the scene has been worth the wait, with his takeover of Mista Jam’s Radio 1Xtra show for the infamous #SixtyMinutesLive and saw him joined in the studio by – Giggs, Wretch 32, Chip, D Double E & Footsie (aka Newham Generals) and Bushkin and Mighty Moe (HLC aka Heartless Crew).
Following a three-year hiatus, Kano has returned with his first official release – a bolshie double A-side titled Hail / New Banger and is released this week in conjunction with this years Record Store Day.
Kano has also unveiled his latest video for single New Banger. Co-directed by Risky Roadz alongside Kano himself, the video documents his time after deciding to spend the budget for the video on a “shoobs for the fam”. Watch the video for New Banger, which premiered on Noisey – HERE:
Hail and New Banger show an emphatic statement of intent from the East London born MC to let the masses know that he is back, and grittier than ever. Sparing no expense in delivering two club-ready singles, the former N.A.S.T.Y crew member produces sharp flows over antagonistic guitar riffs and thundering drums, packing a gargantuan sonic punch that will have the listener reeling for days.
With talk of an impending album release at the tail of the summer, listeners can take solace that this is the first in a barrage of new music from one of the UK’s most notable exports in underground music.
Kano also recently performed as part of the Boiler Room’s Grime Series at London’s ICA, with Ghetts, Invasion Alert and Moleskin. Watch and share the stream HERE:
