KILIMANJARO announces new EP Makalelo (Origins)

London-based Zambian/Scottish DJ & producer KILIMANJARO announces his 4-track EP Makalelo (Origins). Set for release on 7th March, new single ‘Come Towards The Light’ is out now.

‘Come Towards The Light’ is a sonic representation of KILIMANJARO’s exuberant live performances married with distinctive afro-centric rhythms and melodies which underpin the artist’s mesmeric vocal delivery.

A celebration of the darker, underground raves KILIMANJARO grew up on,Makalelo (Origins)’ in KILIMANJARO’s native Zambian Lozi means beginnings’ – incorporates energetic percussion, vocals, melodies and what he calls “Sounds of the Motherland”. Built around four tracks, it celebrates the start of a new chapter for KILIMANJARO, who is exploring his creative and artistic identity. He explains, ‘Come Towards The Light’ and the forthcoming Makalelo (Origins) EP is the beginning of something special, the evolution and the genesis for what is to come sonically from the KILIMANJARO project. These tracks have been road-tested and developed worldwide over the past 18 months and have created countless special moments during my shows on dance floors round the globe. I can’t wait for you all to hear what we’ve been cooking.”

Makalelo (Origins) features previous single ‘The Seeker’, which has picked up support across BBC Radio 1 from Pete Tong, Arielle Free & R1 Dance alongside 6Music support from Nick Grimshaw & Huw Stephens.

Having a long and storied background in music, KILIMANJARO’s roots can be found playing in bands across Scotland and later pivoting to performing DJ sets within the country’s renowned clubbing landscape. After years of DJing the Scottish circuit in Glasgow and Edinburgh, KILIMANJARO moved down to London to establish himself and find a footing in a city that’s been leading the way in electronic music for decades. These moments were pivotal for the DJ/producer as he crafted and built his sound. KILIMANJARO then cultivated a loyal following as his name began to resonate. In 2021, he launched KILIMANJARO MUSIC at La Cheetah in Glasgow, which focused on championing black, POC, female and other marginalised artists across the UK, something he continues to do to this day.

KILIMANJARO’s charismatic performance style led to streaming appearances on DJ Mag and Mixmag last year, but it was his Boiler Room set alongside Fred Again.. in 2022 that helped introduce him to a global stage. To close out a tremendous 2024, KILIMANJARO performed at Honey Dijon’s House Nation at Drumsheds and rang in the New Year at The Warehouse Project. Not stopping there, KILIMANJARO made his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix debut joining a whole host of revered DJ’s and producers for the seminal series.

Ushering in a new era, Makalelo (Origins) EP is a riveting culmination of KILIMANJARO’s career to date.
