Ministry of Sound has started 2015 in fine form with major crossover hits from Tchami, Mike Mago & Dragonette, and DJ Fresh feat. Ella Eyre. And, on the strength of the buzz around this, expect Kokiri’s ‘Retrospect’ to follow suit.
Signed from burgeoning cult label, Love & Other, ‘Retrospect’ has so far been hammered across Radio 1 and 1Xtra, via Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, MistaJam, Trevor Nelson, Twin B, Cameo, and Monki, plus further support from Kiss and Capital Xtra.
Reflecting the track’s widening appeal, DJ support ranges from The Magician through to Oliver Heldens, Tiesto and beyond. To date, ‘Retrospect’ has had over 300,000 plays on SoundCloud.
The work of Liverpudlian house producer Kokiri, aka 24 year old Kevin Williams, ‘Retrospect’ is set to be his first crossover hit under this guise, having dropped previous official reworkings for Chase & Status, DJ Shadow, and Benga, after he won a slew of remix competitions. With further releases signed to Big Beat, alongside remixes for Citizens! (on Kitsune) and Feder, Kokiri’s already being hailed as one of this year’s most promising new talents. Forthcoming live dates include XOYO (Love & Other Showcase with Hannah Wants and Zinc), SubSoul, and Ministry of Sound London with Shift K£Y and Alex Adair).
Remixes for ‘Retrospect’ come from Koven (premiered by UKF), Glaswegian producers of the moment, Illyus & Barrientos, and new mix from rising UK star, A-Minor (premiered via Annie Mac on Radio 1).
