Kollaps – Misery / Could This Be

Creating dream-like synth based soundscapes laced with soulful r’n’b melodies, heavenly duo Kollaps presents GTI001 ‘Misery / Could This Be’ the inaugural vinyl release from recently mobilised artist collective, Grade 10. A compelling meeting of musical minds, Kollaps is comprised of classically trained, grime-influenced Prayer and the enigmatic producer known as Coop. With a united sound that is both powerful and beautifully haunting, Kollaps and their collective counterparts are developing a distinctive sonic voice that begs to be heard.

Exploring the relationship between classical compositions and beat-based music, the ‘Misery / Could This Be’ EP, dropping 4th May 2015, is the debut release on the Grade 10 imprint. Reflecting both sides of Kollaps’ varied tastes across a pair of select original cuts, echoes of Max Richter, Philip Glass, Aphex Twin and Burial can all be heard within the sonic framework. A-side ‘Misery’ is a seven minute epic, voyaging through the duo’s signature stirring vocal samples and haunting synths. An emotive dance track fused with experimental percussive components, ‘Misery’ has a truly other-worldly feel. On the flip, powerful and intelligent use of melancholic vocal samples with complimentary kicks and snares make b-side ‘Could This Be’ a love song for modern times. Already championed by Benji B on Radio One, ‘Could This Be’ fuses elements of the classical world as well as grime melodies in a raw, personal story that’s striking in its simplicity.

Also operating in the realms of Grade 10 is one of grime’s most exciting prospects, ForeverForever, who steps up for remix duties. His interpretation of ‘Could This Be’ is stamped with the producers’ trademark grime-infused melodies, alongside a bassier undercurrent and raw kinetic energy.

Approaching their productions with Prayer’s classical ear and Coop’s expansive knowledge of iconic electronic sounds, Kollaps aim to push the boundaries of traditional composition. Kollaps have previously remixed Darkstar’s ‘You Don’t Need A Weatherman’ released via Warp Records, and Prayer debuted on Cult Music in 2013 with the acclaimed ‘Two Halves / Play Fights’ with Forever Forever, featuring remixes from Actress, Darkstar and Silverlink. Prayer’s latest release ‘Pluvia’ premiered on Diplo’s Radio One show, and received love from leading authorities on music, including Dazed, DUMMY, XLR8R and more.

GTI001 is the first in a series from the Grade 10 collective, the majority of whom were formerly a part of Zomby’s Cult Music label. Now with a fresh line up and new name, Grade 10 presents a uncompromising vision for the future of electronic music. Grade 10’s eight members include Classic Coke, ForeverForever, 8Ball, Kollaps, LooseWomen, Nokia Boys, Prayer and Unslaved. For more information head to grade10.uk

Grade 10 will takeover the airwaves of Radar Radio on May 10th for a four-hour special between 6pm-10pm with Grade 10 artists and special guests > radarradio.com
