Laura Jadi Releases Powerful Alt-Pop Single ‘don’t get too close’

Laura Jadi, a multi-faceted artist known for blending pop, R&B, EDM, and alternative influences, has released her most vulnerable single to date, “don’t get too close.” Inspired by artists like Raye and Sevdaliza, Laura continues to push musical boundaries, merging haunting melodies with deeply personal lyrics that explore the pain of past trauma, abusive relationships, and the journey of healing.

The track stands out for its alternative pop sound, striking a balance between atmospheric verses and explosive choruses that grip the listener from the start. Laura describes the creation of the song as an almost feverish process, beginning with a repetitive chant that echoed in her mind during a period of deep dissociation. The haunting mantra, “don’t get too close,” became the backbone of the song, unfolding into a cathartic anthem for anyone who has faced darkness. “It’s my realest and most vulnerable version I have ever been,” Laura shares.

“don’t get too close” is a sonic representation of Laura’s own survival story of fighting her way out of an abusive relationship, in which she overcame emotional turmoil and fear. The song captures the dissociation she felt throughout this period, with every verse revealing another layer of her inner battle, while the chorus erupts with raw emotion—a sonic cry for both release and strength.

Accompanying the single is a powerful music video that visually narrates Laura’s journey. In five evocative scenes, the video takes viewers through her darkest moments—the mental straitjacket representing her inner turmoil, objects being hurled at her while she remains tied up symbolising a lack of control, and the car scenes depicting her eventual escape. The raw and unsettling imagery is a visual testament to the courage it took to reclaim her life and start anew.

“don’t get too close” is a song that speaks to anyone who has faced trauma, abuse, or loss, and it serves as a reminder that healing, although messy and painful, is possible. Laura Jadi’s bold decision to share her story aims to empower others while inviting listeners to look beyond the façade of normalcy that so many wear. “I don’t talk about these things, only in my art. I don’t like people seeing me as weak, and I am everything but that,” Laura reveals. Her bravery in turning past pain into powerful art is proof of her strength.
