Lawrence Hart’s new track ‘How The Light Gets In’ is a simultaneously spirited yet sentimental track from his upcoming third EP, ‘Music for Dark Spaces’ – out on Attack Decay Sweet Release.
Lawrence combines high energy dancefloor fuel with thoughtful, contemplative work, as here, effortlessly crossing boundaries with his unique blend of musical and technical talents.
The track opens with an introspective synth line, around which chopped vocals bounce and flutter. Glitchy percussion then navigates through melancholic vocal moments, euphoric synth and a deep bassline, exhibiting Lawrence’s phenomenal range of production skills in just three and a half minutes.
Hart chose the title ‘How The Light Gets In’ as a reference to writings by Cohen, Hemingway and Rumi that express the positivity and strength that can result from trauma, as light finds its way through cracks and fractures. The fragility of the chord progressions are that call from within the cracks, as the vocals break through the deeper elements of the music, bringing light to the listener.
His upcoming EP ‘Music for Dark Spaces’ explores the chiaroscuro of music and how the listener’s physical and psychological environment shapes their experience.
