Leeds-Based DJ and Producer Bakey Drops Gritty Garage-Inspired Single ‘Under Control’ via Warehouse Project Records
London, UK – 28th March 2025 – Today, rising UK bass music star Bakey continues his meteoric ascent with the release of his latest single, ‘Under Control’, out now via Warehouse Project Records. The track is the second single from his forthcoming ‘Backrooms’ EP, following the critically acclaimed title track ‘Backrooms’, which dropped last Friday (21st March) and garnered support from Mixmag, Dummy, Dancewax and BBC 6 Music’s Giles Peterson and Deb Grant, among others.
A sleek 2-step roller, ‘Under Control’ pairs crisp garage swing with the rough-and-ready vibe of pirate radio’s golden era. The track’s growling D&B-esque bassline and skippy percussion lock into a hypnotic groove, while a warped vocal sample – nodding to the heyday of jungle – gives it that peak-time energy. The result is a lean, club-ready cut that balances nostalgic UK rave spirit with Bakey’s razor-sharp production.
Speaking on the single, Bakey says:
“Once again, I took a lot of inspiration from the sounds of Drum & Bass on this track. Taking elements of that scene and merging it with the post-dubstep/garage vibes. It feels like a fresh way to appreciate both scenes. I feel like it’s one of those tunes that really chases a crowd reaction. It’s very in your face when it comes in.”
The ‘Backrooms’ EP is a three-track exploration of garage, breakbeat, and dark, minimalist soundscapes, marking Bakey’s debut release on Warehouse Project Records. The EP’s rollout is as follows:
21st March: ‘Backrooms’ (Single Release)
28th March: ‘Under Control’ (Single Release)
4th April: ‘Don’t Stop’ (Collaboration with Felixcw) + Full EP Release
Coinciding with the EP’s launch, Bakey will kick off a month-long residency at London’s iconic Phonox nightclub, taking over Fridays throughout April. The residency promises a handpicked lineup of pioneers and future icons, including Champion, Reek0, Dismantle, Zed Bias and Breaka, cementing Bakey’s status as a defining voice in the UK bass scene.
Bakey’s 2025 is set to be his biggest year yet, with performances at Bubble Love, WHP Rotterdam, Love Saves The Day, Parklife, Gottwood Festival, Outlook Origins, and Waterworks, among others. Crowned DJ Mag’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2023 and as the first signing to Warehouse Project Records, Bakey’s rise is a testament to his deep-rooted appreciation for soundsystem culture, pirate radio, and the rave movement.
