Leink & Electro Rocking Boyz – Colossus

Leink this month releases his brand spanking new release alongside the Electro Rocking Boyz and it’s available now on Pop Rox Muzik. The label has become one of the most diverse and impressive rosters in dance music and it’s a keen ear for the best new up and coming talents which has helped turn the imprint into a hotbed for the production stars of the future.

‘Colossus’ is a typically bold production that takes no time at all in banging out a dramatic sub kick on the intro. Layered with a fully digital sounding percussive synth and and offbeat stabs that follow the risers into the breakdown, you can quickly work out that the producers aren’t short on ideas for interesting synth designs. The break down strips back the low end and lets loose a beautiful plucked lead that’s dragged under a sweetly placed low pass filter. The plucks come across as Trance-like and the euphoric nature is reinforced with the introduction of a lovely string section that creates a new atmosphere. Lush and rich, the reflective strings provide a perfect backdrop for layers that sit above and below, including an intricately placed arp-synth, almost 8-bit in tone. Once the full flavour of the main leads are free from any filter restrictions – ‘Colossus’ offers its full capacity. The height of the breakdown is an all guns blazing stack of leads and backing synths, that leads into a meltdown of unraveling synths and FX. The rush of snares firing on triplets marks the beginning of the end of the breakdown, leaving no doubt of the big drop ahead.

Sure enough the sub woofers are called back into action to try and contain the seriously low end bass on the drop. A new ripping baseline takes centre stage and it’s a unique and creative patch. Part evil, part chainsaw, part Dubstep and full of anger – the grinding bass sizzles over the kicks creating a seriously tough-edged main section that’s designed for club impact and executed with intent. The clean mix is distinctive and the creative and technical approach to the details leaves optimum space for both the dynamics and frequencies to breathe as required.

French synth-abuser and prolific party-starter Leink is making serious waves both in his homeland and beyond. Supported by the likes of Dada Life, Alvaro, Mercer, Milk N Cookies, Jaystyle and many more – the self-proclaimed technical perfectionist has been impressing big hitters for fun and we’re not surprised to see the support raining in as the product is the real deal. Mousse, D-Sky, & Joy – or Electro Rocking Boyz as we know them have had a busy 2014 working their way through a long list of releases on some of the most reputable independent dance music labels around. With a focus on big and bold Electro and Progressive House, the trio are well on their way to international recognition and ‘Colossus’ will do their reputation no harm at all.

It’s a seriously strong effort from Leink and Electro Rocking Boyz – a fine example of why they’re getting attention in France and a clear indicator that their international breakthrough is coming up sooner rather than later.
