Welsh-speaking singer-songwriter Lily Beau is stepping into the spotlight with her highly anticipated debut EP, Little Old Me. Born and raised in Cardiff, with a rich Irish-Jamaican heritage, Lily’s soulful and introspective sound captures the emotional depth of unrequited love, quarter-life crises, and the healing process. After years of honing her craft within the walls of her bedroom, Little Old Me marks the culmination of a long, heartfelt journey—one that’s brought her from bedroom demos to major stages and radio acclaim.
Lily’s journey in music began early. Growing up in a household steeped in jazz and a love of cinema, her passion for storytelling came naturally. At just 12, she penned her first songs—innocent musings inspired by childhood crushes, including her infatuation with Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe. But what started as light-hearted childhood writing soon developed into a more profound artistic calling. By 16, Lily had moved to London to attend East London Arts and Music, a move that not only allowed her to nurture her talent but also paved the way for her future career in A&R, where she would spend five years learning the industry from behind the scenes.
But the artist in Lily never left. Throughout her time in A&R, she remained committed to her own musical dreams, writing and performing on the side. She performed Welsh-language songs and graced some of the UK’s most iconic venues, including the Troubadour, Proud Camden, and the Wales Millennium Centre. Lily also opened for major artists such as Jack Savoretti and Joel Culpepper and was a part of Tony Visconti’s Unsigned Heroes for Sky Arts, performing alongside legends like Bob Geldof and Imelda May.
In 2023, Lily joined forces with producer Nate Williams to bring her bedroom-written songs to life, resulting in Little Old Me, a collection of five tracks that blend pop, folk, and singer-songwriter influences. Each song reflects her personal growth as an artist, and the project has already garnered attention with singles “Too Close” and “Little Old Me” earning spots on BBC Radio Wales’ Welsh A-List and receiving praise from BBC Introducing.
Little Old Me, is a testament to Lily Beau’s journey as an artist, blending vulnerability and strength, and marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this multifaceted talent. “I can’t wait for the world to hear these songs and for my music to finally exist beyond my bedroom walls,” she shares.
The EP opens with “Dream,” a nostalgic nod to the nights Lily spent in her childhood bedroom, finding solace in writing songs during bouts of creative insomnia. The track’s warm, reflective sound perfectly encapsulates the dreamlike quality of those early years of discovery, setting the tone for the rest of the project.
“Too Close,” one of the EP’s lead singles, dives deep into the emotional complexities of falling for someone who’s just out of reach. With a delicate mix of pop and folk, the track explores the fantasy of a love that could never fully materialise—a relatable narrative woven with Lily’s distinct, heartfelt storytelling.
The title track, “Little Old Me,” represents a turning point in both the EP and Lily’s artistic trajectory. It marks her shift from melancholic ballads to a more upbeat, empowering sound. The song is about reclaiming personal agency, and it showcases Lily’s determination to overcome the anxiety and self-doubt that often held her back. It’s a bright, hopeful anthem for anyone trying to carve out their own path in the world.
“Run with Me” softens the EP with a tender exploration of love’s healing power. Written not in her own childhood bedroom but in her partner’s, the track is a delicate plea for patience as she learns to accept love in all its imperfections. The song’s vulnerability and intimacy reflect a more serene side of Lily, showcasing her versatility as an artist.
Finally, “Fuck Your Expectations” is a bold, defiant statement of personal freedom. Written after a corporate quarter-life crisis, this track signals Lily’s decision to break free from the pressures of pleasing others and fully embrace her own creative path. With raw lyrics and a fierce attitude, it’s a rallying cry for anyone who’s ever felt confined by societal norms or the expectations of others.
Beyond her music, Lily Beau’s talent extends into the world of acting. She starred in the 2022 Welsh Bafta-winning film Y Sŵn and led the Bafta-nominated TV series Y Goleudy in 2021. Her ability to blend music and storytelling shines through in her performances, whether she’s on stage or on screen.
One of her proudest achievements came in 2022 when she performed at the Nobel Peace Centre, representing Wales on a global stage. She’s also composed for the Welsh Government, writing and performing the theme for the post-pandemic reopening ceremony, an honor that placed her in front of the Queen.
As Lily Beau’s star continues to rise, Little Old Me serves as a testament to her artistic resilience, emotional depth, and creative versatility. Each track is imbued with vulnerability and strength, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this multifaceted talent. Whether you’re drawn to her introspective ballads or her bold declarations of independence, Lily’s music invites listeners into her world—a place where healing, love, and empowerment are at the forefront.
With her powerful storytelling, distinctive voice, and raw authenticity, Lily Beau is more than just a rising star; she’s an artist ready to make her mark on the global music stage.
