Having already joined forces with US RnB star Tinashe on slick, club-facing anthem ‘Pretend’, UK producer Redlight has unveiled the latest track to be taken from his forthcoming debut artist album ‘X-Colour’. Premiered by Annie Mac as her ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on BBC Radio 1, ‘Lion Jungle’ sees Redlight this time collaborate with US hip-hop legend Prodigy of Mobb Deep – and the results are explosive.
Constructed around a stomping, 4×4 tribal beat, a facet of Redlight’s work that is fast becoming a hallmark, the track itself again taps into his firm handle on the clubs. With Prodigy providing an added sense of star quality on the hooks, sweet and sugary pitched-up vocal breaks pave the way for the beat to twist and turn, although the energy remains consistent and infectious throughout.
It’s this sense of energy that sees ‘Lion Jungle’ pick up from where the excellent ‘Pretend’ left off, offering an insight into the creative dynamics that underpin Redlight’s forthcoming debut LP ‘X-Colour’ in the process.
