The connected label continues to come on strong, this time with a second release of the year from Brothers Giovanni and Daniele Bruni aka pôngo complete with remixes from Florian Busse, Ukrainian duo Artbat and label heads Stereo MCs.
Building on their previous release, ‘Look In The Mirror,’ and combining a techno ethic with distinctive vocals from Giovanni, pôngo have been gaining a strong following from a busy schedule of live and DJ slots at many prestigious dance events. They continue their flow with this latest release, which has already gained very early support from Solomun.
Their brilliant original here is a propulsive and hypnotic peak time techno track that has a distinct and immersive vocal refrain. The drums and bass are dark and broody, there is a sense of eeriness throughout and the whole thing really has you in raptures once the synths and sweeping filters take hold.
Expert Berlin sound sculptor Florian Busse then steps up to remix. His version is just as vital and has a killer percussive line that is loose and organic. Off kilter keys and wonky synths also bring a looseness to the groove that is truly irresistible as the vocals sound dreamy up top.
The Stereo MCs, who co-own the connected label with Terranova, then strip things back to functional territory with a track designed for DJs. It is robust and driven by big rubber drums. Tumbling percussive sounds and icy hi hats add to the groove and the whole tribal affair is perfect for getting the floor moving.
Last of all the acclaimed pair of Artbat take the track into tech territory with warbling main room synths, four to the floor drums and a dark sense of edge and tension that really keeps you locked throughout.
All four of these cuts really pack a punch and make for another essential offering from Connected.
