Charles Schillings & Ashley Slater - Love Sex And Music

‘Love Sex And Music’ is the fantastic new single by internationally acclaimed French DJ Charles Schillings and lifelong musician Ashley Slater. It comes with a fine array of remixes from The Supermen Lovers, Maxamillion, CätCät, Sean and BinaryFunction.

Schillings has been associated with this label for a while and has a career dating back 20 years. One of France’s finest DJs, he’s held residencies at prestigious clubs like Queen in Paris and radio shows on FG and Radio Nova. He’s scored many fashion shows for the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, A&Red and recorded for Pschent,  putting out a wealth of albums. Here he links with Ashley Slater who has worked as a session musician for Style Council and Rolling Stones, collaborated with Fatboy Slim and Dimitri from Paris, toured with the likes of Dub Pistols and has his own live band.

Their superb and summer-ready single ‘Love Sex And Music’ is a libidinous one with low slung drums and cosmic synths and fx. It has a singalong chorus from the talented Scarlett Quinn, funky bass guitar riffs and loose claps that are all sure to work the floor into a lather.

The Supermen Lovers has been a part of France’s disco landscape for years now, he runs the Word Up label, topped the charts in the past with his anthem ‘Starlight’ and has turned out plenty of club hits since. His remix here layers in a crystal clear and emotive female vocal while allowing the bobbling drums to make for an irresistible groove. It’s feel good music with proper structure.

Maxamillion has produced and licensed music for major national and international brands like Saab, GoPro and ELLE. His happy remix is uplifting and accessible, with jangling drums and a filtered vocal lead getting you up on your toes. Then comes CätCät, a rising French star who has had support from Todd Edwards and plays major festivals in France. His remix is driven by a rugged bassline and has bright claps and thin chords all adding colour to the original.

Retired keyboard player turned producer Sean Ovenden remixes with a passionate, slowed down sound that is super seductive and steamy. His loose percussion and laidback vibes really sooth the soul. Last of all is former DMC world champion and Manchester based artist BinaryFunction, who spent years in Mauritius as the most celebrated DJ on the island. His fat remix has dubby drums and plenty of reverb fleshing it out. The uplifting vocals and trumpets bring a balearic feel and close down the package in style.

This is an essential EP for lovers of charismatic and charming disco and house sounds.
