While most music fans around the world are still only dreaming of those summertime terrace sessions, producer and Miami resident Markem joins forces with fellow HoTL Records label boss David Tort to banish any winter blues, delivering a massive dose of Balearic heat with their huge new remix of Alexander Som’s take on David Penn’s classic 2012 cut ‘Lovin' U’.
A heady, sun-drenched concoction of lush piano chords, hispanic guitars and grooving percussion, all whipped up with deft precision by Tort and Markem, the remix sees the pair draw on over two decades of combined experience at some of the world’s biggest festivals and most prestigious clubs. Staving off Max C’s scintillating hands-in-the-air top line until the middle section of the track, holding it back as the rolling percussion undulates underneath, the duo finally allow all the elements of the single to reunite in a full fat moment perfectly designed to bring dance floors to their feet.
The remix marks a run of new music to come from Markem over the next couple of months. Making his name back in 2010 with the anthem ‘Party In Miami’ – hitting the Beatport #3 spot in the process – the Venezuelan-born producer doubled down on that success with last year’s massive smash ‘Strangers’, released on Tiesto’sAFTR:HRS label on Spinnin’, still sitting pretty in the Beatport Top 100 chart and clocking up an impressive 2 million streams on Spotify alone. With further edits forErick Morillo, Cedric Gervais and Mya, collaborations with David Tort andMoska, and releases on imprints such as Ultra, Spinnin’, Strictly Rhythm, Nervous Records and Blanco Y Negro, Markem has easily established himself as one of the most exciting house talents to come out of South America in recent years.
With DJs turning their attention to Ibiza, summer festivals and warmer climes, Markem and Tort’s remix of ‘Loving You’ is certain to feature heavily on international playlists, set lists and house charts over the coming months.
