MADE Festival announces more acts…

On the make for another prime Summertime celebration of street culture, MADE Festival keep up credentials with a very special guest ahead of the 50+ acts and six new stages yet to follow. A true Godfather figure to the D&B scene, Goldie joins headliners on Saturday 29th July in the streetwise sanctuary of Digbeth Triangle. This, before shepherding the party on to the just announced ‘MADE… My Night’ festival after-party, featuring Hannah Wants.

In reflection of a well-heeled career that has seen him traverse every sub-level spot on the circuit, converse with near every sub-genre, Goldie has of late been a spokesman preaching club-lands case to the powers that be. During the day he represents his purist passions with a one-off Reggae-only mix on the MADE Stage. An apprehensively awaited showcase of his first album in two decades – The Journey Man – sees him playing later for his second session, making ‘My Night’ with a standard, though ever irregular and reputed DJ set.

Meanwhile, MADE can unveil extra and exciting names for the two exclusive takeovers from Gorgon City – part of their ‘Kingdom’ tour – and Chris Lorenzo presents his new event concept Bass Mentality to the Birmingham masses, in his first announced performance of 2017 for the burgeoning promoter. Two titans respectively of bass and house, triumphantly entering the new year with standout releases on Heidi’s Jackathon Jams and Armada Deep, Denney and Low Steppa step up to either plate.

The night-time events promise perfect surroundings in warehouses 119 and Boxxed: Victorian spaces amid The Rainbow Venues in the Creative Quarter of Birmingham’s gloriously graffitied, concrete jungle. Filling the rooms to their vaulted roofs with raucous and rumbling bass, getting the crowds bouncing off exposed redbrick walls, is a blockbusting array of sub-culture icons that have been around every block. Hannah Wants leads, having championed her home Midlands from a local sportswoman to the seriously regarded tastemaker of awards acclaim, BBC1 residency and FabricLive89.
Extending the afterhours with Hannah and Goldie come a real cross-section of music talents. No longer making fun from the fringe, since playing a knockout rave in 2015’s Heavybass Champions (literal) boxing ring and debuting the third season of the BBC’s People Just Do Nothing, Kurupt FM have become an influential third-force in D&B – across the frequencies and on mainstages around the festival circuit.

So too helping to stave off dawn are several more in-demand names: London night ABODE’s rising star Ellie Cocks; MTA Records’ protégé with the approval of several MADE headliners, 1991; Grime music maverick Rude Kid, fresh from more seminal productions in studio and pushing the genre at SXSW.
