The Geneva-based artist Jérome Soudan aka Mimetic exceeds the usual expectations of a producer and DJ throughout his 20 years long career. He is a trained drummer and keen multi-instrumentalist, which helps him to write uniquely powerful and complex music, not only for his solo project, but also for dance artists and bands. His newest EP Maidenhead, released by the Swiss label Les Arts Minis captivates the listener with striking percussions, thick bass and compressed synths. It’s a very bold record indeed.
Gone is playful in terms of rhythm and it layers all kinds of claps, snares and percussions into a very rich and expressive pastiche. Maidenhead is gentler in terms of tempo and beat, but it brims with heavy, shiny synths. Sweet Agony starts off with a minimalistic, crispy sound palette with a dominant kick around which scatters the whole soundscape around it, until it finds an equal partner in an acid synth motive. Their handshake shakes off the Earth!
Maidenhead EP is set to be released December 3rd on Les Arts Minis.
