MALA & THE OUTLOOK ORCHESTRA

Across two years, Outlook Festival’s ‘Outlook Orchestra’ has grown to be a force in it’s own right, with curators and contributors from David Rodigan and Dawn Penn to Loyle Carner and Newham Generals. Next up, the Outlook Orchestra return to where it all began; London’s Southbank Centre, for the next edition with the one and only Mala on curation duties. For any fan of low-end bass frequencies Mala needs little introduction, the Deep Medi boss has been the power driving some of the most seminal labels, releases and artists in the movement. For a chance to witness this monumental collaboration in Southbank’s prestigious Royal Festival Hall, sign up now to register interest :malaoutlookorchestra.com/. With the last edition selling out in record time, don’t sleep on this one.

Outlook’s 20 piece orchestra joins forces with Mala to create entirely new interpretations of his own productions and remixes, as well as music from the vaults of Deep Medi Musik & DMZ as well as music from his album Mala In Cuba and his Peru inspired Mirrors. In addition to Mala's own productions, there’ll be new workings of some of the most pivotal bass driven tracks of our generation. Huge tracks by his friends and peers such as The Bug, Skream, Benga, Kahn, Sir Spiro, Loefah, Goth-Trad and more. And of course, there’ll be a few special guest vocalists joining too.

Music, energy, culture and collaboration: Croydon-born, Belgium-based Mala is at the heart of the UK underground movement. A true creator, Mala is a father of the dubstep sound that travelled from Croydon to the globe, also a founder member of iconic DMZ label, a timeless imprint that 20 years on still holds as much power as it did way back when. From here he launched his own Deep Medi Musik, creatively developing ideas from a dub and bass background. Skream, Swindle, Commodo, Calibre, Goth Trad, Truth, Khan and many more genre-affirming artists have worked with Deep Medi Musik over the years.

Led by BASCA award-winning composer Tommy Evans, the 20-piece Outlook Orchestra features some of the UK's finest musicians – two drummers in an extended rhythm section, along with large string and horn sections. Players include rising stars in jazz, Nubya Garcia & Ashley Henry with Eddie Hick (Sons Of Kemet), on drums alongside Richard Spaven (Flying Lotus, The Cinematic Orchestra).

A strong collaboration between Outlook Festival and Southbank Centre, The Outlook Orchestra has gone from strength to strength since it’s first show in 2018. Taking iconic electronic tracks and bringing them to life, it’s an electric, high energy atmosphere to be expected. Previous guests and curators include David Rodigan, Dawn Penn, Loyle Carner, General Levy, Newham Generals, Pharoahe Monch – an all-star cast to celebrate soundsystem culture. Tickets are expected to sell out well in advance so register interest here : malaoutlookorchestra.com/
