Maya Jane Coles & GAPS – In Dark, In Day

Multi-award winning British-Japanese producer, Maya Jane Coles, opens a new chapter in her remarkable career as she releases an EP in collaboration with British based duo GAPS; aka Rachel Butt and Ed Critchley. “In Dark, In Day” EP is released on 8th September 2014 on Beatport and available from all other outlets from 22nd September 2014 via Maya’s own label; I/AM/ME.

All four tracks on the EP are produced by Maya; with vocals delivered by Rachel. All the tracks on the EP were also co-written by the pair with the EP also featuring guitar work from both artists.

“I love the minimal darkness of what Maya does,” says Rachel, “and she just loves making music. Collaboratively, it’s been a lovely union too.”

The collaboration originally arose when Rachel sent Maya some vocals after a chance meeting and a couple of emails. On hearing the richness of tone in Rachel’s voice, Maya was definitely sold on the partnership; the magic that followed wholly enshrined in this EP. Notably, this release marks Maya’s first full EP since the release of her hallowed debut album “Comfort” which included an array of guest vocalists from artists such as Tricky, Miss Kittin, Kim Ann Foxman, Karin Park, Thomas Knights, Alpines and Nadine Shah.

In 2014, Maya also added Roskilde (Den), Tomorrowland (BEL), Future (AUS), Secret Garden (UK) and Awakenings (NED) to her list of festivals played; whilst returning to old favourites Glastonbury (UK) and Melt (GER).  Other highlights for Maya this year include headlining Amnesia’s sold out opening party in Ibiza; her fabric 75 mix release, her own international Maya Jane Coles & Friends events, more magazine covers (almost 20 in all now!) as well as, fitting in remixes for the likes of Bookashade, Bonobo and Kwabs which has led to Maya amassing a 2.6 million Soundcloud followers and there are even rumblings of Maya visiting South America for the first time before the year is outŠ

As well as collaborating with Maya, the GAPS story is also unfolding at a rate of knots.  The duo are winning over media and fans alike with both their music and creative eye following two single releases and a video collaboration with celebrated directors BISON.  Rachel and Ed first cut their teeth drumming in different bands before these old school friends met again in Brighton.  With rehearsals underway for an Autumn UK tour including a headline London Show at Servant Jazz Quarter (28th Oct) and an album being penned there is certainly far more of the GAPS story still to comeŠ

Who knows maybe this might be the start of more collaboration to come between Maya Jane Coles & GAPS? If so, that’s more than fine by us!
