Since its inception in 2012, the Mayan Warrior art car descends to Black Rock City Nevada annually, to join the temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self- expression, and self reliance at what is known as Burning Man. The Mayan Warrior is a collaborative group of artists, builders, photographers, designers, technologists, architects and musicians from Mexico City and Northern California. As burners prepare for their 2015 journey “Home” to the playa, Mayan Warrior announces the first phase of the artist lineup. 7 days in the dust means 7 euphoric sunrise sets and 7 magical evenings.
Phase 1 of the Mayan Warrior lineup brings on Deep House front man and bona fide superstar Maceo Plex, Swedish producer Axel Boman, German techno artist Barnt, one half of the Pachanga Boys Rebolledo, DJ legend Acid Pauli, Berlin Based artist Nu, Canadian born Techno producer Mathew Jonson, Icelandic-American DJ duo Thugfucker, Crosstown Rebels and Kompakt artist Jennifer Cardini, the cinematic sounds of the anonymous Man Power, MUTEK Mexico’s Damian Romero, disco funk duo Avanti, Mexico’s Beyou, Black Disco label boss Lovefingers, deep house maven Heidi Lawden, Futher Future artist Timujin, and Eduardo Castillo, who’s best known for playing music which weaves in and out with dynamic and texture.
The two responsible for curating the Mayan Warrior lineup for 2015, are Damian Romero (Mayan Warrior partner) and Rebolledo (Pachanga Boys). Together, they have carefully selected artists who will truly provide an experience on the playa.
“Music as a means of transport is the main approach we try to give to the Mayan Warrior soundtrack. Focusing on the whole experience rather than on single moments or highlights. We´re imagining each night as a journey through the artist selection and
running order with the unsuspected fact of the unknown. Get ready for your mind to leave your body… and for your body to get in motion. ”
– Damian Romero & Rebolledo, Mayan Warrior music curators
Visionary artist Alex Grey, is the artist behind the face of the Mayan Warrior. Grey is best known for his psychedelic art work, performance art, installation art, and sculptures. Grey hand painted the face of the Mayan Warrior, which is a warrior mask with its body resembling a serpent. The form is based on Aztec and Mayan drawings and carvings of deities like Quetzalcoatl (the feathered spirit).
The Mayan Warrior welcomes everyone to their community to share art, music, and positive energy that illuminates throughout the playa. If you plan on playing in the dust this August 30th-September 7th 2015 – make a stop at the Mayan Warrior to seize the moment and make it yours. Carpe Diem.
