Melé – The Ritzy / Learn 2 Love

Known for his bulletproof mixing skills behind the decks and the ability to carve out intuitive dancefloor destroyers, it has not taken long for UK producer/DJ Melé to become a permanent feature of everything that is hot within the electronic music scene.

Now Melé turns the volume up to eleven as he launches his very own label, Quadrants. For a producer that has previously released sonic ammunition on Digital Soundboy, Toddla T’s Girls Music (Ninja Tune) and Sinden’s Grizzy label, this new development now gives Melé the chance to have full creative control over his musical output which spans many different genres and styles. This is what makes Melé such an exciting and undefinable producer when it comes to carving out the sound of the future.

“I started Quadrants as a means of finally giving somewhere mine and other like-minded producers music a home. I steer away from the genre box and therefore my sound can chop and change; so over the last few years I’ve struggled to find a label where my music fits perfectly. Finally being able to do this label is really exciting”, Melé commented.

The first release on Quadrants will come in the form of two brand new tracks from Melé himself, which both accurately pinpoint where the producer is at musically right now and what he is playing out in his many DJ sets all over the globe.

The first half QUAD001 is entitled ‘The Ritzy’, which offers a whirlwind four and a half minutes of endlessly rising synths, massive jungle-infused drums and the rather apt vocal sample “I keep dancing forever more”, which is what the track encourages the listener to do after just one listen.

Next up is ‘Learn 2 Love’, which cleverly takes its cues from the 90s era of hardcore and is laden with piano stabs that do not quit. Pitched up vocals provide the catchy vocal hook, while jungle breaks give the track an infectious skip. A few plays of the track will soon turn into complete obsession.

Following in the wake of the debut release from the boss man, the next Quadrants EP drops in February with music from a mysterious production duo named Callahan and a collaboration with the label head himself and Mak & Pasteman.

“It’s going to be really nice to have something else to concentrate on other than DJing and being in the studio, I’m very excited to see where the label goes in 2015”, Melé said.

In addition to the aforementioned, Melé’s credits include producing Kano’s last single and remixing Clean Bandit’s ‘Come Over’, gaining support from from the likes of Annie Mac, Mistajam, Annie Nightingale and DJ Target.
