There are no boundaries to what you can create nowadays, and merry poppins (aka Tony Esterly) has gone about his craft in his own and unique manner, with his experimental approach to creating music that blends between electronic, hip-hop, R&B and so much more. You wouldn’t think this was possible, but when given time and space to create in the pandemic in 2020, poppins and dropped a whole genre and revolutionary sound altogether.
Double single release ‘ib2up / 2 one beat funk’ showcases this in the best way. ‘Ib2up’ is very much a hip-hop/rap track that features the wonderfully talented Tim Gent who takes centre stage on the vocalds and rapping with an insane flow and lyrics. ‘Then, second track ‘2 one beat funk’ is completely different, and reminds of a nostalgic trip back to the vintage Fatboy Slim days, with a sampled vocal track with a stylish dance-funk rhythm behind it. It’s a brilliant combination of tracks, and merry poppins only has more in store.
