Robbie Akbal - Mezcal Night

Berlin based Robbie Akbal returns to his own label with a hot new single that comes backed with remixes by the legendary Swayzak and Jay Tripwire.

Robbie Akbal is a veteran of the Mexican house scene as well as being signed to the likes of Culprit and Get Physical, making music that has received support from tastemakers like John Digweed and M.A.N.D.Y.. His own label is an always interesting outlet as this new EP proves once more.

The fine original single is a fresh house cut with trippy synths and xylophone sounds raining down over the compelling groove. Brooding bass sweeps add breadth and depth and some Mexican male vocals take you further into the psychedelic experience, which is sure to make for plenty of memorable dance floor moments.

Swayzak (formerly a duo but now a solo project for David Brown) needs little introduction: he is an esteemed minimal and tech artist who has mixed it up for fabric, put out five solo albums and recently impressed on Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio. His remix reworks the track into a frazzled and high pressure cut that sounds like a creepy urban landscape. Icy hi hats and lonely pads ring out into the night as modulated synths gurgle down low.

Veteran Canadian producer, prodigious maker of trippy west-coast tech and deep house and a veteran of many essential labels, Jay Tripwire, then steps up. His remix is stripped back and unsettling, with snaking bass and spooky atmospheres dragging you deep into the bubbly groove.

Not only is this a great new single, but with the slick and inventive remixes it shows Robbie Akbal to be as fine an A&R as he is producer.
