As temperatures begin to rise, Miami’s Cedric Gervais brings the heat in his brand-new remix of MJ Cole’s ‘Waking Up’featuring Freya Ridings. Premiering today via Data Transmission this summer scorcher entices with its piano driven melody and playful percussion around Freya’s stunning vocals.
Speaking on the remix, Cedric says:
“This was an amazing opportunity for me, I remember hearing MJ Coles album ‘Sincere’ years ago & it blew my mind, the production was so slick and living in Miami, musically it very different to what I was listening to and felt so UK. l love the original and Freya is a superstar in the making, wow what a beautiful voice… I wanted to make a good time / feel good vibe and something to play in my sets throughout the summer, I hope that comes across”
Since its release, the original has seen over 330 plays across national radio including Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 and most recently a Shazam chart topping sync to the UK’s most popular reality TV program, Love Island. Following the play, the track was Shazamed over 25K+ times and shot the single to an impressive #2 on the UK Shazam chart.
Earlier this year, the innovative underground music pioneer MJ Cole who most recently claimed co-writing and co-producing credits on Stormzy’s latest single ‘Crown’ unveiled the highly anticipated Waking Up EP alongside a brand-new Fil Fury (JHus, Lotto Boyz) directed visual for The Observer tipped title track ‘Waking Up feat. Freya Ridings’. The video which was premiered by CLASH stunned in its beautiful simplicity and followed the release and premiere of two further singles; the 2-step infused soulful ballad ‘Mercy feat. Kudu Blue’ and euphoria inducing ‘Serotonin’ which premiered via TRENCH andMixmag respectively.
2018 saw MJ Cole the glistening, emotive and club ready Foundations EP, the first in a series which garnered support from key online tastemakers including DUMMY, TRENCH, HUNGER and XLR8R as well as continued plays across Radio 1, 1xtraand Beats 1 from Annie Mac, Target, Toddla T and Julie Adenuga. Furthermore, one of his biggest collaborations of the year with Kojey Radical called ‘Soak It Up’ set media alight, with support from tastemaker heavyweights Pitchfork, Highsnobiety, i-D, The FADER, NOWNESS, FACT and MTV.
Working out of The Gin Factory in Farringdon for the last 5 years – a creative hub for some of the country’s most prolific producers and musicians which he built – MJ Cole has been busy collaborating with a range of artists including vocalist Bruno Major, rising rappers Avelino and emerging grime artist AJ Tracey.
