Originally released back in 1992, to this day ‘Always’ manages to incite more dancefloor revelry than the vast majority of modern day house productions. Twenty years down the line and some of today’s most exciting producers are stepping up to add their own signature twists to the cut.
In a recent interview MK was asked which up and comer we should all be listening to. He answered Route 94, an elusive new name in the house scene, who here provides the first new version of ‘Always’ adding to an already impressive string of quality productions under his belt. The remix adeptly combines the original vibe with today’s fuller production aesthetics, resulting in some serious attitude thanks to its bassy garage vibes, chiming synth lead and excellent utilisation of Alana’s vocals. Dutchman Gerd is next up, with the Gerd Bonus Bounce rendition doing exactly what it says on the tin by combining Alana’s looped vocals with a bouncy bassline. The NY Stomp Remix works with some nostalgic piano chords, while the NY Stop Dub removes much of the vocal to focus on the beats. Finishing off the package is MK’s Club Mix, an archetypal classic that exists to reinforce the notion of Marc Kinchen being an originator and innovator, and evidence of his forward thinking that has continued to inspire so many to this day.
