Pop music works best when it feels effortless and when it’s created by someone completely in control of what they do, step forward MNEK. The 20 year old trailblazer dominated the charts in 2014 and it’d be wise to bet on a repeat performance in 2015.
On March 15th MNEK releases ‘The Rhythm’, a hypnotic dance-floor stomper with deep house grooves and the pop pioneer’s signature powerhouse vocal. It’s already sound-tracked many a festive party, scored a top 5 chart on Hype Machine as well as clocked up half a million plays online. Early supporters include Annie Mac, Danny Howard, Mistajam, Fearne Cotton, Alice Levine, Coco Cole, Steve Smart, Trevor Nelson. Remixes come from Alpines, XO, Astronomy and the hotly tipped Little Simz jumps on a remix with the man himself.
Versatile enough to play about with deep house one minute, pure pop the next and R&B bangers the next, MNEK is primed to properly take over 2015. Last year, his many song-writing and producing collaborations included Gorgon City’s hugely acclaimed single ‘Ready For Your Love’, Oliver Heldens No.1 track ‘Gecko’ and (Grammy Nominated) Need You (100%) by Duke Dumont. His collaborations included monster tunes with the likes of Chris Malinchak, Becky Hill, Sinead Harnett and Bondax and recently he’s been in the studio with Bat For Lashes, The Magician, and Disciples as well as Madonna. MNEK has been making a name for himself in the live arena, playing a myriad of summer festivals and three buzzy sold-out London shows (including XOYO) with more planned for this year. Oh and he supported Kylie Minogue at her iTunes show at the Roundhouse.
In 2015, pop music will revolve around just one man; MNEK.
