In what is “one of her favourite records she’s ever made”, drum and bass star Mollie Collins uses live recorded violins and Leah Guest’s vocals to form a rave-ready banger that’s off the Richter scale
Global D‘n’B star Mollie Collins goes all out with epic new single ‘Hurricane’ featuring vocalist Leah Guest, out 12th July on Spinnin’ Records.
‘Hurricane’ is an ode to the captivating chaos of the rave, equating it to an impending hurricane. Vocalist Leah Guest sets the scene while Mollie takes things up a level by throwing live violin and electric guitar over her signature punchy drums.
“‘Hurricane’ is one of my favourite records I’ve ever made,” explains Mollie. “Getting live musicians involved in the violins and guitar sections of this track brought it to life. It was also great to work with Leah again on another D’n’B banger. Alongside the track, the music video is one of the best pieces of visual work I’ve ever been involved with as well. We’ve really gone all out on this one!”
This is the sixth collaboration between Leah Guest and Mollie Collins. Their empowering 2023 track ‘Need Ya (Don’t Wanna)’ and 2019’s ‘Lost & Found’, which also boasts a stunning stripped-back piano-led acoustic version, have both racked up over 2M and 3M Spotify streams respectively. Alongside providing velvety vocals over drum and bass, Leah’s been tapped up to work with some of the hottest producers in house and techno, such as Jess Bays for their bumping house track, ‘Love Me Better’, now at 3.7M streams, and London-based Hyzteria for a colossal melodic techno number called ‘Hold My Breath’.
‘Hurricane’ follows a recent string of belting drum and bass bangers from Kent-born Mollie Collins. So far in 2024, we’ve heard the Latin-inspired ‘Liquor By The Litre’, featuring P Money and Laurena Volanté, featuring remixes by jungle legend Benny Page and Murder He Wrote. In May she teamed up with rising D‘n’B producer Jamezy and vocalist Ruth Royall for ‘The Weekend’. Mollie’s evidently been busy in the studio, releasing remixes for big names like Jonas Blue featuring Galantis and Zoe Wees, and Timmy Trumpet for his track ‘Best Thing’.
Mollie Collins is one of the most in-demand names in drum and bass. She picked up DJing in 2015, just two years later receiving the award for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ at the Drum and Bass Awards in 2017. She was later awarded ‘Best Female Artist’ in 2020 for her debut album, ‘Musicality’, which she released on her own label, Right Good Records. Mollie now hosts a show on KISS, alongside presenters like DJ Q, Mark Knight and Sam Divine. Taking place from 1 am each Saturday, it sees Mollie dish out her distinct blend of jump up, liquid and jungle over two hours.
While establishing herself as a brilliant producer, Mollie’s love for DJing hasn’t waned. She’s played at major UK venues and festivals like Printworks, The Warehouse Project, Parklife, Ministry Of Sound and Parklife, and regularly plays in Australia and New Zealand.
‘Hurricane’ is a step in a new, exciting direction for Mollie Collins, as she adds live recorded violins to her gritty drum and bass sound for an extra sense of drama. Paired with Leah Guest’s passionate vocals, it’s sure to resonate with fellow D‘n’B ravers.
