Morrissey releases video for ‘Lady Willpower’, California Son out next week

Morrissey has unveiled another track from his anticipated first-ever covers album ‘California Son’.

‘Lady Willpower’ was written by Jerry Fuller and recorded by Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, originally released back in 1968.

Liam Lynch, who created the ‘California Son’ album artwork has produced the lyric video for the track; a hazy floral retro visual accompanying the love song.

Morrissey has just finished a sold out week-long residency on Broadway which saw him performing rarities and tracks that have gone un-played live for decades.

‘Lady Willpower’ comes from the new album ‘California Son’ which will be released on 24th May via Morrissey’s label Etienne; an imprint of BMG.

The twelve track album, produced by Joe Chiccarelli, consists of a variety of songs from the ‘60’s and ‘70’s hand-picked and covered by Morrissey himself.

The latest single ‘Wedding Bell Blues’ has been enjoying frequent radio play sitting on the A List at Radio 2 and ‘California Son’ is album of the week on the station.

Recent Live Review Quotes
“Morrissey has been pretty consistently great over the years, and right now, on the cusp of turning 60, he is performing like his life depends upon it. “
“His distinctive voice was in fantastic shape, a creamy baritone rising up to sweet falsetto, descending into gruff barks and extending into melismatic yodelling warbles.” The Telegraph (5*)
“…his voice has barely aged at all; it’s like a Dorian Gray of the larynx.” Variety
For all his melodramatic choreography, it was Morrissey’s singing that was the star of the night. For 20 songs, he crooned and bellowed, and his voice remained strong, like that of someone decades younger.” Rolling Stone

California Son’ Review Quotes
“You’re reminded what a unique instrument his voice is” MOJO
“A reckoning and refashioning of his own back pages that might add up to a more telling autobiography then his own, and a pop art confection to place alongside Bryan Ferry’s ‘These Foolish Things’ or Bowie’s ‘Pin-up’s” UNCUT
“Such celebratory music will satisfy that buried part of us that always just wanted to see the boy happy” UNCUT Ultimate Music Guide
