Sam Weston - Never Been In Love (Part II)

Australia’s world-famous Mushroom Group are excited to announce the launch of their first ever electronic music imprint, Soothsayer. The group, which was formed over 40 years ago by industry legend (and current head honcho) Michael Gudinski, is one of the world’s largest and longest running independent music collectives – currently housing almost two dozen music brands, discovering artists including Vance Joy and DMA’s.

The team behind the new Soothsayer imprint are specialists in the electronic realm, including an A&R team with background at labels such as Greco-Roman and Modular, plus Melbourne’s beloved Sugar Mountain festival (the country’s only Boiler Room festival partner).

With the Australian electronic scene riding such a wave of both unique talent and momentum, it’s the perfect timing for Soothsayer’s entrance.  The label will look to showcase the countries’ brightest talents, from late-night house outings to experimental pop and everything in between. With the right mix of incredible music, past experience and blind faith the label aims to bend genres and once more showcase why Australia is a hotbed for electronic talent.

The debut international release on Soothsayer comes from Sydney house prodigy Sam Weston. He joins Sydney pseudo-garage wunderkind Dro Carey (aka Tuff Sherm) and Melbourne woozy pop duo ALTA as the label’s inaugural signings.

In late October, Sam released ‘Don’t Save Face’, the first taste of his upcoming EP. The 13-minute journey found a surprising home on Triple J where it currently sits in high rotation. He now delivers the astonishing follow-up with eight-minute-long heater ‘Never Been In Love Part II’. With a glorious stabbing piano melody and vocal loop, it is ‘90s Chicago done proper with subtle flourishes that make it perfect for the dancefloor. ‘Part II’ is the lead single from his new three-track EP, ‘Never Been In Love’, which is out 2 December via Soothsayer.

To coincide, Sam has released a stunning refix of his debut single courtesy of south London’s man-of-the-moment Ross From Friends.
