No Historical Backspin takes over Berghain

No Historical Backspin, founded in 2000 by DJ Monika Kruse, would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the house and techno fans who gathered at Berghain, Berlin on 12 March 2015 and generously donated 21,451 Euros to combat racist, xenophobic and homophobic attacks.

No Historical Backspin is a charity that raises money to give direct assistance to people who suffer from racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant discrimination. The money raised at Berghain goes to two organisations: Amadeu Antonio Stiftung and its Opferfonds CURA, which provide quick and non-bureaucratic practical assistance such as medical care and legal aid.

Timo Reinfrank, managing director of Amadeu Antonio Stiftung said: “Our sincere thanks to Monika Kruse and all the DJ friends who have played free this evening. Also the colleagues at Berghain, we would like to thank for their generous private donations and [enabling] No Historical Backspin to take place here. With their help, we will help many sufferers of right-wing violence back into everyday life. The Victims Fund goes towards medicines and doctor visits that are not covered by the health care, as well as related travel costs and costs of a translator.”

The night was a powerful demonstration of solidarity from electronic music lovers showing the scene has both a heart and a conscience. There was a massive queue outside Berghain by the 22:00 opening time and the club was still full when the party ended at 10:00 the next morning. There was no VIP or guestlist. Everyone, including press and industry, queued and donated.

A special thanks to the DJs who contributed to this unique and memorable event:

“No one should be discriminated against, hindered or hurt because of their backround, race, gender, belief, physical challenges or sexual orientation – in Germany or elsewhere. We’re against all forms of discrimination. We’d like to celebrate society’s diversity through music, joy and togetherness and set an example for tolerance for a mutual, peaceful future.” ~ Monika Kruse
