“Nuyorican Disco”
Los Charly’s Orchestra (Aka Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel)
Feat. Andre Espeut & Oswaldo Chacon
“Million of stories, stories of Latin Soul… rising up from Harlem, crossing all over the world. Eddie Palmieri and Joe Bataan, Ray Barretto, and Celia, Edmundo Ross and Willie Colon.”
“It was a mix of rhythms, it was a mix of soul, it was a blend of cultures, coming from a melting pot. From La India, to the Masters at Work and beyond. Nuyorican Disco, Nuyorican Soul.”
In a year that seen the Atjazz Remix of “Amazonas” top the Traxsource charts alongside the best-selling ’Disco Cake EP’ from Funky Magnetic & Del Blake, Los Charly’s Orchestra return with a super musical homage to latin fusion culture and its superstars on “Nuyorican Disco”. About to create some serious fire on promo, this slice of latin-infused disco funk is set to heat up the festive season with its connoisseur fusion vibes.
Opening in percussion funky style as the guitar and bass drop, the “Nuyorican Disco” Original grooves along in percussive disco fusion style interspersed with slap heavy bass, ooh aah and pa pa pa pom ad libs and more before the trumpet comes in building to a crescendo of all the different elements. Fire. The Instrumental is included also and then its the stripped back Neo Latin Mix with its spoken word from Andre Espeut and outstanding trumpet from Eikel Venegas, conjuring the ballroom style of 70’s latin New York. Rounded off with an Instrumental version, this is a musical cocktail ready to spice up dance floors across the disco, funk and latin soul spectrums.
Featuring performances from Cuba’s noted “son y mambo” music virtuoso, Ejkel Venegas; Colombian Percussionist, Emeris Solis and singers Andre Espeut, who sung with the late Terry Callier, Faze Action and Ron Trent and Cuban Oswaldo Chacon.Another strong release marking the consolidation of the British-Latin American connection at its best.
Having released over 128 releases on their Imagenes label over the last decade, Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel’s impressive musical catalogue includes projects and collabs with UK soul icon, Omar, the Andre Espeut Quintet, as well as their joint releases Boogie Magic and The Boogie Man. Building their reputation on classic cuts such as ‘All Around The World’, ‘Everlasting Love’ & ‘Sunshine’, Juan and Jorge’s A List supporters include Radio 1’s Pete Tong, BBC 6’s Gilles Peterson, Louie Vega, Lakuti and Craig Charles’ as well as Jazz FM. Their latin-infused grooves can be found on best-selling compilations including 2020’s ‘Cafe Del Mar’ edition, Defected Records, Expansions and Universal with esteemed producers John Morales, Dave Lee, Dimitri From Paris, Atjazz, Opolopo and Jose Padilla (RIP) delivering wonderful remixes.
One of London’s most effusive champions of latin-infused music Jorge Montiel has just started a new DJ residency at The Maine in Mayfair bi-monthly on Saturdays alongside his residencies at El Pastor in Soho and Kings Cross locations. NYE and early January Jorge will be DJ-ing at a Beach Club in the Maldives before heading to Hong Kong for a new club residency.
