Josh Butler connects with the roots of House music on his brand new release ‘On The Edge’ feat. Kerrie Anne. One of Butler’s few vocal records, the track highlights his deep running love of old-school house, while demonstrating an ever-evolving toolbox of production chops. ‘On The Edge’ feat. Kerrie Anne is out now on Defected.
For this latest release, the tech-house maestro has teamed up with vocalist Kerrie Anne to deliver a contemporary throwback where rhythm and melody are the storytelling conduits. The four-to-the-floor kick pumps until the claps arrive on their hallowed two and four. However, Butler manages to break new ground on old by introducing a deep house bass and pads, as well as paying intricate attention to details in the percussion, which keep the track fresh throughout its nearly seven minute runtime. Kerrie Anne’s harmonious hooks soar soulfully over the track at tastefully dispersed intervals, effortlessly working in tandem with the instrumentation to build mood and energy – a journey many clubbers have enjoyed during Butler’s recent sets around the world.
Over the last few years the UK based producer has received unwavering support from tastemakers Pete Tong and Annie Mac along with industry heavyweights Tiga, Groove Armada, Nile Rogers and Fatboy Slim to name a few. 2016 has seen Butler release his latest EP ‘Link’ on Rejected, as well as embark on a multi-date world tour, including a 13-date residency at Sankeys Ibiza for Tribal Sessions this summer.
