OpenLab Mondays @ The Basement, Sankeys Ibiza

OpenLab Radio plays the very best in new, alternative, electronica and experimental music, across the Balearic Islands in FM and online to the world.

Founded and curated by electronic music pioneer Robert Miles, the station has recaptured the eclecticism for which Ibiza was originally famous and reimagined it for the 21st century.

So successfully that in the 18 months since its first broadcast, and programming only new music, OpenLab has become the official alternative music partner of the Ibiza International Music Summit (IMS) and the destination of choice for the most discerning new music fans around the globe.

This summer OpenLab further cements its place at the heart of Ibiza’s new underground scene with OpenLab Mondays a weekly residency at the Basement, Sankeys Ibiza – part of Sankeys’ 20th Anniversary celebrations.

It’s an ideal partnership as Robert Miles explains:

“Sankeys and OpenLab both have similar values even though we execute them in different ways. We both focus on featuring the best possible music and on pushing the envelope with what we do.

“In many of the other events on Ibiza there’s too much focus on presentation and not enough on providing good, credible music. Even now, in its 20th Anniversary year, Sankeys is raw, like clubs used to be in the late ‘80s and early’ 90s. They have that orginal Ibiza spirit and that suits OpenLab very well.

Across a 13 week season (closing party September 29th) OpenLab Mondays’ resident DJs will be Robert Miles & Alex Wolfenden, joined by special guest DJ’s as the weeks unfold.

Also very much in evidence will be the breathtaking visual art that is a signature feature of OpenLab.

“As with OpenLab Radio we’re aiming to bring a breath of fresh air to Ibiza with OpenLab Mondays,” says Robert “and a major aim of that is showcasing music that’s a bit more forward-thinking and original.”

At the core of OpenLab‘s multi-faceted activities is a philosophy celebrating the best of the new – in music, art and ideas – that in under 18 months has drawn together a nascent movement spanning countries and continents. Currently numbering half-a-million people and increasing every day.

To provide a focus for this trans-continental community of forward-thinkers, and augmenting its radio and digital operations, OpenLab plans to open physical centres – OpenLab Hubs – in Ibiza, London and Berlin. The first of which, set in the unspoiled countryside of northern Ibiza, is scheduled for 2016.

Ambitious? Certainly. Globalist? Absolutely. Forward-thinking? Defiantly. As were the international travellers who discovered Ibiza in the first place, back in the 1970s.

Meanwhile, back in the present, there’s a party going on next Monday. So join us at OpenLab Mondays for a glimpse into the future and the best underground music to be found anywhere on Ibiza today.

“Amazing music…Amazing visuals…A mouth watering line-up for discerning music lovers.”
