Øya Festival announces more names!

Today, Norway’s premier music festival Øya announces more names for 2018, including Thursday night headliner Kendrick Lamar. From humble beginnings, Øya has cemented its enviable reputation as one of the most critically respected events in the summer music calendar, presenting audiences with tastefully curated, out of the ordinary billings. One of the world’s most green events, Øya has also become the benchmark in sustainable practices and standards for festivals the world over.

Joining previously announced Friday headliner Lykke Li will be platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated rapper Kendrick Lamar. Part of the new generation of West coast rappers, Lamar is a rare breed of artist: one that has achieved commercial success whilst maintaining coveted tastemaker status amongst the critical elite.

Also confirmed to play at the 18,000 capacity festival this year will be indie royalty, Arcade Fire. The Canadian sextet will be bringing their combination of rock muscle and theatrical, unapologetic bombast to the Øya main stage on Wednesday night.

Rounding off the new additions are British alt-rockers Wolf Alice; LA singer and writer of rich soul, art-pop-, folk and ambient R&B infused songs Moses Sumney; BRIT Award nominee and Black Butter Records rapper J HUS, and soulful jazz-inspired songstress Jorja Smith.

Flying the flag for Norway will be a host of homegrown talent, including daze-pop trio Great News, soul pop outfit Fieh, and electro-pop trio Sassy009 who have received acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and i-D of late.

Beyond the music, Øya seeks to operate in the most environmentally sound approach possible. The entire event is powered by sustainable electricity, while all of the festival waste is hand-sorted and recycled which means that 70% of it can be reused. The audience also benefits from such an approach: almost all of the food served at Øya is organic and locally sourced from small scale providers, and all caterers are required to deliver a menu that’s at least 50% meat-free
