The Culprit imprint hailing from the sunny city Los Angeles have demonstrated over the years that they know exactly what they're doing when it comes to signing solid underground music. Over the years they have welcomed the likes of Axel Boman, Steve Bug, Audiojack, and now turn to the likes of Bambook and Javier Orduña to close 2016 in style.
The opener track Paloma is a deep house wonder, one of those tracks that makes you see colour. Intricate melodies interact with one another while the distant echoing vocal adds in the extra bit of flavour upon request. Burundanga is stripped back melodically, focussing more on chord stabs that keep you propped upright as the percussion beneath chugs along in fine form. There are two remixes on hand here, both of the lead track. Eduarda De La Calle ramps things up, taking the calm aura of the original, and laying it down thick over a powerful minimalistic techno roller. Quina does quite the opposite, which is a real benefit to the EP, focussing more on the melodic factors behind the original and opening up a whole new dimension to which Paloma can be heard.
