Pat Burgener teams up with his brother Oddbox for new single ‘Free’

Rising indie folk artist Pat Burgener teamed up with his brother Oddbox (Max Burgener) to unveil their new single, ‘Free’, released on the 30th of August 2024 via Oversey Records. The single premiered through EARMILK as well as landing a feature on Spotify editorial playlist New Music Friday Switzerland. The song was written by both brothers and produced by Oddbox, a guitarist and full-time producer who is based in London and boasts over 81K monthly listeners on Spotify. Oddbox has been living in London for ten years, establishing himself as a multi-genre producer and integrating into the city’s diverse music scene. He has worked with the likes of Saint Raymond and Jamillah Barry, to name a few. With support from notable publications like RTS and SRF, and 18 million streams across YouTube and Spotify alone, Pat has put out four EPs and his debut album, and is currently working on an ambitious collaborative album with some of his favourite artists. Having toured Europe and the UK opening for acts such as Sons of the East, James Hersey, Matthew Mole and Ziggy Albert, Pat boasts slots at Swiss festivals Paleo Festival (with headliners like Sean Paul, Burna Boy and Sam Smith) and Montreux Jazz Festival.

Pat Burgener is a Swiss Olympic snowboarder and singer-songwriter, who turned to music after a snowboarding injury in 2014. During his recovery, he partnered with his brother Max, also known as Oddbox, to pool their talents and make music together. Influenced by artists like Ben Howard and Fleetwood Mac, Pat began crafting songs about his life and travels, achieving notable success with his first singles and performing at prestigious venues like the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2016. Music not only helped Pat navigate his injury, but also fueled his return to snowboarding, culminating in his impressive 5th place finish at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. Pat divulged; “I travel a lot. With my early music, I made a lot of melancholic songs. During COVID, I wanted to make people smile. That’s when I found my path”. Pat and Max craft a sound that is a soulful flavour of indie Folk, bound to be enjoyed by fans of Ben Howard, The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons.

Anchored by energetic guitar strums, ‘Free’ has a vintage folk/country feel crisply captured with Oddbox’s reverb-soaked modern production. Pat’s soulful vocals sing an age-old tale of self-actualization and emancipation, driving his buoyant and inspiring track that is bound to uplift any listener. The accompanying video intersperses intimate camcorder-style shots with crisp, clear ones while occasionally weaving in playful edits, depicts Pat and some friends enjoying resplendent sunset beaches, surfing and skating – a true vision of freedom.
