Patterns to open in May

One of Brighton’s best loved music venues will reopen 13th May 2015 unveiling a new name and redesign, giving the iconic seafront and its musical mecca a new lease of life. Having been at the forefront of Brighton’s nightlife for thirty years under various guises, Patterns will follow in the footsteps of electronic music hub Audio. Expect a vibrant space for creative crowds with a thirst for world-class musical talent from the live and electronic underground.

Now under the curation of Mothership Group, Patterns will remain a definitive source of cutting-edge music, offering a 360° experience, seven days a week. Friday and Saturday nights will see Patterns in full swing as bar and club fuse as one for the weekend’s debauchery. Serving up house, techno and future facing electronic, Patterns will bring the most eminent DJs and live talent to its historic basement and besides putting major investment into upgrading the sound system, the original raw vibe will remain intact.

With treasured local promoters on board, including Rhythm Junction, Mute, First Floor, Disco Deviant and Sequencer, plus international promoters such as Bugged Out!, Tief and Dimensions Festival all bestowing their own brand of clubbing excellence, Patterns will honour the venue’s legacy and look to the future, bringing something fresh to Brighton with exciting new partners and artist debuts. The opening season programme is already taking shape and among the top drawer artists and selectors involved, Patterns can reveal Anthony Parasole & Tin Man Live, DVS1, Dave Clarke, Amir Alexander, Nick Höppner, Gilles Peterson and HNNY. On the launch weekend in May, Patterns will be hosting the Great Escape official after parties in collaboration with Resident Advisor and Noisey.

As well as keeping Audio’s much-loved residents, Patterns will be hosting an informal audition process seeking new resident DJs to join the family – ‘collectors & selectors’ with personality and ambition to drive the venue forward. On weekdays Patterns will play host to a variety of live music events, as well as bringing back midweek institution Bastard Pop on Thursdays. Watch this space for full line-up info.

With increased accessibility and improved facilities throughout, the Patterns redesign will facilitate a journey from lunchtime lounging to late night revelry via the terrace, bar and club. The south-facing sea view terrace, perfect for after-work drinks, will also provide a spot for lazy summer afternoons. The ground floor bar will highlight the building’s original art deco features and complement these with a nod to Bauhaus design. Incorporating geometric structures and coloured glass, Patterns will be a warm and inviting space with a hint of musical nostalgia. A new menu of cocktails, carefully selected wine, beers and the usual array of spirits will be available alongside a street food menu to fuel the party spirit.

Patterns was previously known as Audio and Escape Club, where legendary artists such as Daft Punk, The Stone Roses, The Chemical Brothers, Carl Cox and Paul Oakenfold have all graced the premises. Honouring this rich musical heritage, Patterns marks a new era for the venue.

In the words of Heather Pistor, Creative Director for Mothership Group: “We’re excited to have taken on such a well-respected music venue. Local promoters and artists will sit side-by-side with international promoters and headline acts, producing what we believe to be an innovative programme of club nights to rival the top clubs across the country. The dream is to create a thriving social hub for drinking, dancing, hanging out with friends but most of all a place for forward-thinking music.”
