Bringing things home after a couple of stellar releases, Soundspace Records is delighted to present to you Fine Lines EP by label co-owner Peter Gibney. Having roused the interest of the Soundspace community with his gritty Girls (Who Love Acid) free download as well as a superb contribution to our mix series, the 22-year old Belfast resident looks set to consolidate his position among the ranks of emerging Irish talent with this nifty two-tracker.
The project’s title track doesn’t waste any time introducing itself but plunges the listener straight into the deep end with the kind of momentous, growling kick drum you’d expect. This empowering intro is followed by a mist of acid flutters, sweeping pads and snares perfectly engineered to keep you on your feet. The real magic comes at around the three minute mark with the subtle addition of a muffled synth line; seemingly insignificant to begin with, this pluggy little groove emerges from the haze to give Fine Lines the epic finale it deserves.
Gibney tightens the beat up somewhat for Without, instead turning his attention to creating a rich and wonderfully trippy soundscape. A chorus of spiralling chimes and atmospheric pads provide the backdrop for a tenacious mid-section which hits like a ton of bricks. After a minute and a half of pure dancefloor momentum the Belfast-based producer scales thing down, rounding off the EP with trademark spacey vibes.
Far from a premature stab at a release, this inspired project marks the emergence of a producer who has patiently waited his turn, spending many years immersing himself in the music cultures of Belfast and Ibiza and soaking up the range of influences you can hear showcased today. On top of this, Fine Lines is also the perfect embodiment of our mission – unearthing and promoting the most forward-thinking electronic music around.
