My Favorite Robo - Pink Horror

After last year’s Want Some EP and January’s ‘Femur Loveseat’ track, the My Favorite Robot bosses are back on their own label with another standout tune that features remixes from regular associate Jori Hulkkonen and Entschultigung.

Jared Simms and Voytek Korab make up the Toronto outfit that have established themselves and their label with an always carefully crafted, synth heavy sound. Often emotive and with subtle vocals, they have recently minted the Music Is 4 Lovers label with a new remix of Nico Mendez, and continue to play all over Europe. Their last release was the first on their new club-focused sub-label MFR Red and received broad critical acclaim, now the return to the mothership with this superb offering.

The original single here is ‘Pink Horror’, an immediately thoughtful track with sombre chords smeared over nimble, upbeat drums. The synths evolve into busier patterns, and breathy vocals add an air of detached ruefulness that marries with the driving kicks to carry you away into the night on an emotive groove.

Scandinavian talent Jori Hulkkonen has released numerous LPs and EPs on this label and his synth heavy, artful style suits it perfectly. His remix ups the energy levels with more hard hitting drums and a twisted bassline. The vocals are louder and more edgy in the mix, with melodies dancing about to close out a track that subtly channels the likes of Depeche Mode.

Lastly, Entschultigung remixes and goes for an acid laced house version with slippery rubber drums and icy metallic hits. The vocal becomes a snarl and there is a real ‘in your face’ energy to the track that will make it stand out in any set.

This is another fresh EP from My Favorite Robot that offers three different but equally essential tunes.

Tracklist:

1. Pink Horror
2. Pink Horror (Jori Hulkkonen remix)
3. Pink Horror (Entschultigung Remix)
