‘Split Personalities EP’, is an amalgamation of both personas used by the Los Angeles-based artist Poncho Warwick. ‘Who Will Comfort Me’ boldly merges house and jazz conventions by using brass instruments and a mesmerising vocal to create a finger snapping organic sound. Things then liven up with a nu-jazz-deep-house hybrid titled ‘Only I Am Mine’ which merges funk and poignancy in a way that only he could execute so artistically.
Providing two remixes of ‘Who Will Comfort Me’ is Guti, one of this year’s most ground-breaking artists who was the talk of the Ibiza season with his unparalleled live sets and seminal DFTD release ‘Hope’. His ‘Summer Loving Remix’ uses a combination of bongo percussion and sultry rhythms to paint a warm beach setting which beautifully emulates sun kissed Ibicenco vibes. Guti’s second remix is a testament to his own early history in jazz with the ‘Slowmo Rework’ aligning itself more towards the tone of the original but with a notable abundance of kick drum to provide more emphasis on the contralto vocals.
