With tickets on sale from £55 from http://gigst.rs/APLDN16, book now to secure your place at the first ever UK edition of AFROPUNK.
BROOKLYN : With performances from the finest in black alternative music, including legend George Clinton, rap poster-boy Earl Sweatshirt, and trip-artist Flying Lotus, plus Kelela, Angel Haze, Young Fathers and more, talent was in abundance across Brooklyn AFROPUNK. Standout shows came from The Internet and Brainfeeder’s Thundercat; who ended the festival on a poignant tip with Ice Cube’s F the Police – with visual footage of police brutality.
Over 60,000 confident, vibrant, and self-expressive fans from all walks of life made up the AFROPUNK community this year at Brooklyn, all gathered together to celebrate uniqueness, free from judgement. With crowd fashion recaps across the weekend, live interviews and discussions with Akala, Tyler the Creator and Nikki Giovanni running through the event – AFROPUNK stands for much more than just the music.
LONDON : On Saturday 24th September, AFROPUNK makes its way across the pond for its debut edition, taking the AFROPUNK ethos and fine-tuning it with a distinct UK flavour. The one and only queen of fierce Grace Jones headlines the show, with a strong selection of performers across the day from the worlds of punk, rap, hip-hop, dub and more, including Laura Mvula, Mercury Prize winners Young Fathers, Birmingham’s leading lady Lady Leshurr, plus Youth Man, GAIKA, Vogun, Skinny Girl Diet, Loyle Carner, Big Joanie and so many more. Selectors from NTS Radio and Soulection will be holding it down for the electronic side of things, making sure dancing is high on the agenda all day long.
Applications for the Spinthrift Marketplace can be found through MARKETPLACE APPLICATION – a ‘by us for us’ DIY market- for stalls, food, art and those added extras are an essential part of the AFROPUNK experience. For those wanting to keep the party going longer, there will be exciting AFTER DARK news coming shortly, so all ticket holders should keep eyes peeled for further information. Hotel partners ACE HOTEL London are also offering a 20% discount on rooms with the code AFROPUNK X, for further information please email.
Freedom of expression, whilst honouring the power of individuality is encouraged.
