Rachel Mason – The Lives of Hamilton Fish

American artist Rachel Mason is independently releasing an original 21 song cycle this May titled “The Lives of Hamilton Fish.”

It’s about two men from the same town in upstate NY with the same name that died on the same day.   This is a true coincidence that Mason discovered herself a few years ago.

Mason is performing “The Lives of Hamilton Fish,” live around the globe beginning next week on Thursday,  March 29 at The Horse Hospital in London.  Then on to Baustelle Kalk in Cologne, Germany on Tuesday, April 7 and the Corcoran in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, April 22.

Mason performs the song cycle against the backdrop of a feature film that she also wrote, produced and directed.  The one woman show features Mason as a newspaper editor trying to unravel a mysterious coincidence: two men who share the same name are pronounced dead on the front page of his paper. The editor inhabits the minds of a statesman and a serial killer, weaving a fantasy out of the details of their lives.

Rachel Mason has recorded ten full-length albums of songs, and has toured, screened films, exhibited sculpture, video and performance at the Queens Museum, Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art, School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Henry Gallery in Seattle, James Gallery at CUNY, University Art Museum in Buffalo, Sculpture Center, Hessel Museum of Art at Bard and Occidental College, Kunsthalle Zurich, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, The New Museum, Park Avenue Armory, Art in General, La Mama, Galapagos, Dixon Place, Human Resources, and Empac Center for Performance in Troy Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Artforum, The LA Times, Art in America, and FlashArt.
