Still in celebration of Ralf GUM’s ‘In My City’ long-player which was awarded Best Dance Album 2014 by iTunes South Africa, GOGO Music follows up with the second single featuring Hugh Masekela taken from it. The song that gave birth to the album’s final title is just one of the many highlights contained. It voices the topic of over population of global metropolis and sees the legendary Bra Hugh on top form. The single includes an intense astro mix by Atjazz.
Ralf produced this piece together with Phil Kullmann, who always knows how to add some spice, here with a certainly spiritual Marimba loop and Bathanga baseline. Based in Raw Artistic Soul universe he absorbed rhythm and melodies and is able to transform them into everlasting loops. Combined with Ralf’s deeper love for some detail and multilayered approach a groover was created that was quickly labelled a dance-floor favourite since the ‘In My City’ album dropped.
Hugh Masekela has been a political voice ever since, deeply connected at home, even while his international career sparkled. In 1960, at the age of 21 he left South Africa to begin what would be 3 decades exile from the land of his birth. With an own style he performs since the 60ies alongside all the greats from Fela to Marvin to Stevie, while he always kept an eye on new talent. Hugh returned to South Africa in 1990, but still maintains his busy international schedule.
Atjazz isn’t on a roll only lately. A declared favourite since his Mantis days, it is a great pleasure to welcome him on the label. Consistent progression makes Martin’s work stand out and a pleasure. His take on the song will hit you with a profound wall of wrapped analogue sound.
‘In The City’ is the 4th single taken from Ralf GUM’s album ‘In My City’ which all received fair love. Here’s another unique and significant piece of art.
