‘The Pap’ is the second single from Ralf GUM’s album, ‘In My City’ and features unique Monique Bingham. Following up their 2012 official #1 chart smash and South African anthem ‘Take Me To My Love’, it’s a song for all deep House Lovers with Soul and co-produced by the inimitable Phil Kullmann aka Raw Artistic Soul. Played by radio-stations of the album and charted already officially in South Africa prior the single release, this is predetermined to be another Summer Anthem in Mzansi and beyond.
The sizzling cut also appeared in the more than 90 DJs recent Top 10’s including the respected Louie Vega, DJ Spen, Quentin Harris, Terry Hunter, Booker T, Rocco, and many more exciting names on Traxsource. A tribute Mzansi’s staple food, the idea of the song came about when Ralf, Monique, and friends in the industry were sitting at a dinner with some people. “We had a big plate with meat and pap in front of us and everyone was eating from the same plate just as it is normal, or as I am used to it now,” says the German producer/DJ, who now calls South Africa home, “but Monique said to me, that she isn’t used to see people who are putting their fingers into the same food.”
It was from this situation that she commented “you put your fingers in my pap” that ended up being the hook on the track. If you listen to the lyrical content of the song, “The Pap” only serves as a metaphor for a multi-facetted story, which is evident in all of Monique’s songs and makes them so special. “She is simply one of the best songwriters, you will find in the house scene. And music always should tell stories,” concludes Ralf.
