The taste-making No.19 Music label ends 2018 on a high with a fantastic new EP from London duo Senzala that features a brilliant remix from Nitin & Alexi Delano.
Jonni Santos and Sam Holland met back in 2011 and come at things from a dancer’s perspective: they infuse their sounds with a raw energy and plenty of the experiences they have picked up raving over the years. It has seen them hotly tipped by Radio 1’s Pete Tong, guesting on Rinse FM and releasing on Richy Ahmed’s Four Thirty Two label. That release hit the Top 5 of the Beatport chart and was followed up with more on Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep In Sound label, and now they come correct once again with their best yet.
Big opener ‘Ratio’ is a tribal tinged, steel plated tech house cut with a real sense of energy that drives you forwards. The big drums are complimented with snare rolls, sweeping synths and distant vocal sounds that will turbocharge any dance floor. No.19 co-owner Nitin then links with longtime techno talent Alexi Delano for a remix that strips the track back to warmer, more rolling techno. It’s a widescreen cut with an absorbing sense of atmosphere that keeps you on edge.
The brilliant ‘Virus’ then offers up elastic synths and loose-limbed drums that are perfectly designed to get the club moving. There is a darkness and tension to the track that makes it all the more enthralling and standout. Last of all, ‘Transmit’ is a perfectly dubbed out deep techno roller, with slick drums and rumbling chords bringing the groove and showing yet another side to this essential studio duo.
This is another expertly realised EP from Senzala and one that will send them into 2019 with plenty of new fans.
