Following the release of latest single ‘Gold Teeth’ and his inaugural BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, Redlight has raised the curtain on new track ‘Pretend’ – featuring vocals from US R&B starlet Tinashe. Initially devised as a remix concept, the track packed more than enough heat to warrant a recording as original material in it’s own right and serves as great insight into what the music world can expect from Redlight in 2015.
Set against an intricately worked percussive backdrop, ‘Pretend’ is all sultry, low-slung rhythm and darker-edged bass licks – a nod to the diverse musicality of Redlight’s continuously evolving outlook. Punctuated by Tinashe’s hazy vocal interjects, ‘Pretend’ thus listens like an exploration of new sounds and ideas – a sharp mix of underground UK club and contemporary R&B sensibility – that showcases a more measured, conscientious side to Redlight’s production remit.
With an artist album on the horizon – combined with the success of ‘Gold Teeth’ and the aforementioned Essential Mix news – ‘Pretend’ will certainly feed into the hype already surrounding Redlight this year.
