Review: ONYX @ Space Ibiza w/ Blawan, Dasha Rush, Alan Fitzpatrick + more

ONYX is now well into its stride and is bringing some fresh, dark techno vibes to Ibiza all summer long. The series has already had some memorable nights, and this last Monday they came correct once more with another mouthwatering line-up of names.

The venue for all this, of course, is Space Ibiza, which is celebrating in real style as it marks it last ever season in operation after many years of being the best club in the world. ONYX take ver the Main Terrace as well as the Sunset Terrace and also have guest promoters, blogs or magazine line-up with their own take on techno.

Tonight’s event was in association with Mixmag and We Play The Music We Lvoe, and there sure was plenty of that. One of the main draws was an exclusive set from Balawan and Dasha Rush playing back to back. The former’s tough techno sound really filled Space with rugged grooves and raw drums whilst the latter served up the sort of slick mixing that has made her a household name.

The crowd is a mix of young and old, girls and boys, locals and international guests, as it always is at Space. They go wild when the beats drop and climb on each other’s shoulders during various moments, all of which adds to the excitement on the floor.

Also on the Main Terrace, big man Alan Fitzpatrick serves up a tight and tense white knuckle techno ride that is full of sweeping synths and barrelling drums. He is a regal this season at ONYX and is well worth checking out if you can. Of course, the lady behind all this is Mikaela, who herself plays a seductive set of sounds that take in both old and new cuts. She does so with real style and laps up the praise from the crowd, rightfully so.

The Sunset Terrace is also in fire tonight, mainly because of cult underground legend Reshape. His set is deep and futuristic, with search like light synths and muted sirens all sucking you into his sound world. It is heady and tasteful and makes for a more moody side to the main terrace and sends everyone home happy once again.
